Brandon Scheller

Brandon was named the No. 1 college sportswriter in America by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2007 for his chronicles of Washington State University athletics. He won six SPJ Awards for his sports and humor columns in the Daily Evergreen, and covered WSU football and basketball for the Seattle Times from 2006 to 2009. He also served as student-body president in 2008-09 at WSU. This book is a collection of nearly 100 of his best columns.

Praise for the Hot Corner

"Brandon is mature beyond his years. His writings are an indication of his grasp on not only the 'tools of the trade' but also the individuals who make up and participate in the sports he covered. I am a huge fan."

—Jim Sterk, former WSU Athletic Director

"I always felt comfortable talking to Brandon. He didn't lie or sugarcoat things, but he was always fair and honest. He printed both sides of the game, the good and the bad, and that's all I could ask for. And I enjoyed the way in which he said it."

—Bill Doba, former WSU football coach

"Brandon's writing sticks with you long after you set it down. He writes with a heart and compassion that makes you invested in the people he covers, and see things through a vastly different, more humane lens."

—Elson S. Floyd, WSU President

"Scheller scooped a number of reporters with his dogged search for material generally overlooked by others. Whether it starts with an empty candy bowl or some freshly delivered hot cobbler, Brandon had a way of giving Cougar Nation an interesting perspective that provided an insight and context to WSU athletics."

—Glenn Johnson, Voice of the Cougs
